First, decide what it is that you want.  Sounds, easy but it really isn’t.  Do you want to produce a product, or do you have a product or service that you can sell online already?

  • If so, be sure to do your homework before you start building your website, advertising, etc.  It is kind of useless to go through all of that if there is no one out in the ‘Net universe wanting to buy it.

How do you search?  I have found that the best method to determine supply and demand is to research the keywords that internet users are using to discover what these potential consumers are looking for.  There are many search tools on the internet that you can use, and some are even free.  Just do a search for “keyword analysis”, “keyword tools” or something like that.  You should also be aware that Google offers a similar tool and it is free to use.

  1. But the best one that I have found and use myself is Wordtracker; it gives detailed information about how and what users are looking for.  You can get a free trial of Wordtracker for seven days.
  2. Remember, if there isn’t anyone looking for your product or service (demand), then it really isn’t worth going after (supply) unless this is just a hobby that you are pursuing and not a business.
  3. Once you have found a product or service that has demand (search results) and low supply, then you have stumbled onto a great market! 
  4.  You don’t need large numbers to be successful.  Then all you have to do is promote it!  Of course, that is another whole lesson.
  5. You can also use the same methods to sell someone else’s products and earn a commission.  This is called affiliate marketing.  Either way, you need a great website and a good product to get started.
